Garri jumper in Alafoss and Lettlopi

Garri jumper in Alafoss and Lettlopi

Knitting
An Iceladic Lopi Jumper; for my Love. After being away for almost a decade, our resistance to the extreme temperatures of Winnipeg has apparenetly diminished, a bit.Time for a Lopi jumper. My love, has particular tastes when it comes to clothing. Plain and dark colours, are usually preferred.  To my great surprise, when he saw this  pattern,  Garri, designed by Védís Jónsdóttir, as I was combing Ravelry for bulky stranded knits, he said 'I would wear that'. Well, that is all the encouragement I needed!I chose almost identical colours to the model, they're his favourites, anyways. It was a super quick knit, only took me about 11 days.  I could have had this done in a week,  but there were a couple of hiccoughs when it came to the placket, as written,…

Paper Hearts Chart is available!

Knitting
The Chart for my Paper Hearts version of the Paper Dolls jumper, by the brilliant Kate Davies is available for free as a .pdf download on Ravelry! Click here to access the pattern. Due to popular demand, I am sharing this yoke pattern that I created for my version of Kate Davies’ Paper Dolls jumper.  You will need to purchase the Paper Dolls pattern from Kate Davies Designs in order to make the garment. The chart on this page is the same size as the original Paper Dolls chart, however, the second and third decreases (rows 30 and 33) are off-set to accommodate the colourwork.  A larger chart is on the second page along with helpful notes. Details of my modifications can be found on my Ravelry page here. You…

Paper Hearts finished!

Paper Hearts finished!

Knitting
My Paper Hearts jumper is finished! And I love it! It has been named The Wizard of Awesomeness! The pattern is the well loved Paper Dolls by Kate Davies. I wrote another post about this jumper here. The Joma Sock-A-Rino yarn, the main colour, is gorgeous and blocked beautifully. The colour is 'Wizard of Awesome'. It almost goes without saying the the Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze, which I used for the colour-work is fabulous.  I used two shades of Peppino: 'The B Boy' and 'A Bunch of 1'. The yarns are bouncy and comfortable. It fits like a dream and is so soft against the skin. Actually, the Joma Sock-A-Rino is probably the most comfortable true sock yarn (75 % Merino/25% nylon) that I've used for jumpers so far. I am so…

Paper hearts, rather than dolls

Paper hearts, rather than dolls

Knitting
Sometimes it takes a couple of tries before you find the right pattern and yarn combination. It's extra wonderful when a colour palette comes together quite by accident. Such is the case with my version of Kate Davies pattern 'Paper Dolls', I call mine Paper Hearts. The Yarn : : After some encouragement from friends, I selected the Sock-A -Rino by Joma of Vancouver Island, in the complex colour called 'Wizard of Awesomeness'! There are a lot of colours in it - blues, greens, purples, but it reads as a solid turquoise. It is intense, rather than bright. Turns out that there is little pooling, and I didn't bother to alternate skeins. Phew! The Pattern :: The first try with this was the jumper called Marklee. It was an interesting pattern to work, well…

Matryoshka Embroidery, revisiting crewel work

Matryoshka Embroidery, revisiting crewel work

Embroidery
It's been some time since I did any crewel embroidery and thought I would give it a go. The whimsical little Matryoshka kit from Kiriki Press  seemed like a good place to start. It is a popular design, and often out of stock, but I was finally able to purchase one couple of weeks ago. The Kit comes with the fabric, embroidery floss and instructions. You will need an embroidery hoop, scissors, and a needle to complete the kit. Hoops are easy enough to find and scissors, well, those are plentiful, but at the cost of the kit,  I thought the needle should have been included. Basic instructions are included, but to know about specific stitches used you will have to access the Kiriki Press website and download (or view) the…
